Job Description and Duties

As Legal Counsel for the CDFW Cannabis Program, you will represent the Department in complex administrative hearings and enforcement actions, working closely with law enforcement and scientific teams to ensure compliance and accountability. You will provide expert legal counsel to both CDFW Cannabis Program staff and leadership, guiding policy decisions that balance industry needs with the mission to protect the environment. Your insights will be critical in navigating the intersection of cannabis law and environmental regulations. In this role, you will help shape and enforce laws in a rapidly evolving industry, with a strong focus on supporting CDFW’s mission to manage and protect California's wildlife and habitats.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Working Conditions

 

Maintain normal and consistent work hours, averaging 40 hours per week. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is expected, when necessary, to complete assignments in a timely manner. This position will be located in Sacramento and  offers the possibility of an office-centered telework agreement based on the Department's current Telework Policy. Occasional travel may be required within the state of California. Travel may include overnight stays dependent upon departmental need.
