Job Summary/Description:

Western Mass News has a unique opportunity for a Meteorologist looking to break into the broadcast industry. This hybrid position will allow you to hone your Meteorology skills while also producing award-winning newscasts. The candidate who is hired for this position will serve as our Weekend Morning meteorologist, provide vacation coverage for our Weekday meteorologists, and produce newscasts during the week.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

- Forecast weather for newscasts as assigned.
- Update the weather page on the station's website, as well as provide weather updates on social media platforms during scheduled weather shifts.
- Provide team coverage in severe weather events, which may include in the studio or the field.
- Produce daily newscast
- Conceptualize newscast rundown
- Collaborate with the Executive Producer, field crews, and assignment desk to determine the  content of the newscast
- Write scripts
- Research stories
- Pitch story ideas
- Participate in editorial meetings
- Preview material before air
- Work with reporters and directors on innovative production elements
- Incorporate and coordinate breaking news
- Work to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts
- Execute the show from the control room
- Meet all show timing requirements

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
