What would a typical day on the job be like? What work would I do? Do you enjoy working outside in the fresh air while being on your feet and moving? Well, this may be the opportunity for you! The Equipment Operator (Tree Maintenance) in the Parks and Recreation Department, is responsible for maintaining, trimming, and removing trees in accordance with the established arboricultural techniques, procedures, and accepted practices while maintaining complete and accurate records of the work. You will also have the opportunity to operate various equipment related to trimming and removing trees like saws, trimming knives, chainsaws, bucket trucks, and other landscape equipment. Safety is our first priority; knowledge of basic safety regulations and equipment operation is important! How much money can I make? Tree Maintenance Equipment Operator has three levels. The estimated hiring ranges (based on experience) for each level are as follows:
Equipment Operator: $34,173.09 - $44,425.02
Equipment Operator, Senior: $39,946.77 - $45,394.06
Equipment Operator, Master: $42,460.80 - $48,250.91
What are the qualifications for this position?
Equipment Operator – Requires 1 year experience in the operation of light and heavy equipment in a similar or closely related environment.
Equipment Operator, Senior – Requires 2 years experience in the operation of heavy equipment in a similar or closely related environment.
Equipment Operator, Master – Requires 3-5 years experience in the operation of heavy equipment in a similar or closely related environment, and 1-2 years lead or supervisory experience is preferred. Requires certification as a Professional Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture within 1 year of employment.
An acceptable background check to include a sex offender registry check and driver’s license with acceptable driving record will also be required. Must obtain a Class A (“O” Restricted) Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit prior to employment and complete the practical portion of the CDL test within 60 days of employment. The City will pay for training!
