Contract Assignment: Coordinator, Community & Communications
NBCU Local New York Duopoly - WNBC & WNJU

Job Overview:

WNBC and WNJU (NBCULocal New York duopoly) is seeking an experienced bilingual (English-Spanish) project coordinator to support the Community and Communications team for a YOH position (one year contract). The position will report to the Director of Community and Communications. This position has a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of three days present in the office.

 

The coordinator will support station in-person and virtual events, activities, and activations. A strategic thinker, the coordinator must be able to multi-task, possess exceptional time management, organizational skills, and work as part of a team. 

 

The coordinator will also support external activities involving on-air talent. They will maintain and regularly update all internal calendars tracking external activities. They will also support the vetting of external event invitations, construct and deliver all event briefings and coordinate external appearances by the New York duopoly (WNBC and WNJU) executives and news talent.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Community (75%)

  • Support community-themed components of tentpole station initiatives, including Weather Kids, Clear the Shelters and Supporting Our Schools. 
  • Support the review/vetting process for external invitations involving the New York duopoly (WNBC and WNJU) executives and news talent.
  • Manage internal calendar of events.
  • Support the department with various project planning assignments. 

 

Communications (25%)

  • Manage and monitor media clips, FCC reporting and station activity reports.
  • Update and maintain media and community contact lists.
  • Edit and/or translate press releases, statements, and media advisories.
  • Support the department in gathering information for digital content and news coverage.


Requirements

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) with strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Communications or a related field.
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks in a professional and thorough manner.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Previous experience with special events, sales marketing, community affairs, public relations, public affairs and/or journalism.
  • Previous experience writing/editing media communications such as press releases, media advisories and statements are a plus.
