Assistant Director, Cooperative Education
Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director of Cooperative Education plays a crucial role in coordinating cooperative education (co-op) and job shadow opportunities to advance career-readiness for Miami University students. This newly created position is a member of the Experiential Education team within the Center for Career Exploration and Success (CCES). The selected candidate will prepare students, mainly within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), for the co-op experience while also managing the Miami University (Oxford campus) job shadow program, communicating with co-op supervisors/employers, collaborating with faculty and staff, and preparing reports.
Job Description
In collaboration with academic departments, execute the Cooperative Education program especially within the College of Engineering and Computing. Teach the .5 credit Introduction to Cooperative Education courses and continually adapt the curriculum due to the evolving workforce needs and trends. Develop a case management system and career advising to monitor students while they prepare, procure, and participate in coops. Serve as the liaison to employers and students during the co-op academic terms. Facilitate the registration and evaluation process (workflow) for co-ops in Handshake. Manage any issues that arise during the co-op experience.
Manage a formal job shadow utilizing resources such as Handshake, Miami Alumni Connect, LinkedIN, etc. Promote the opportunities to Miami’s Career Community (students, employers, alumni, parents, faculty and staff).
Devise marketing strategies for employer and student participation in co-ops and job shadows with the teamwork of CEC and CCES staff (Employer Relations, Career Advisor Liaison to CEC, Marketing and Communications, and Experiential Education). Share stories and promote the link between co-ops/experiential education to post-graduate success.
Prepare reports following each academic term and promote outcomes to campus stakeholders.
Along with Associate Director, process Internship/Co-op/Research Grants and Professional Attire Grants.
Assist in the coordination of office-wide special events, programs, workshops, and career fairs, and other events as needed. Participate in inclusive excellence trainings and actively enhance inclusive excellence practices throughout CCES.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 1 year of post-graduate professional experience. Strong project management skills.

Strong interpersonal, communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment that leverages data, technology, and relationship building skills to advance our goals.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with higher education. Demonstrates knowledge of career development theory and experience with practical application within higher education learning environment. Has the ability to review career and job outlook data related to academic program curriculum and student development needs. Experience in teaching career-related courses.
