Afterschool and Student Enrichment Manager

The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school that centers the voices of students, families, and teachers seeks a reliable, committed Afterschool and Student Enrichment Manager with strong team management, student management and interpersonal skills who is excited to work as part of a fun, creative and dedicated team. This position plays a vital role in our school community by ensuring our Afterschool Program and Lunch/Recess is a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for students and our team.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The Afterschool and Student Enrichment Manager oversees the daily operations of the lunch, recess, and the afterschool program, ensuring smooth logistics and fostering a positive, engaging, and safe environment that aligns with our culture and expectations for staff and students. This role includes providing leadership and guidance to the Youth Mentor team, empowering them to succeed in their responsibilities. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead the onboarding process and manage the daily performance of Youth Mentors supporting lunch, recess, and afterschool programs. This includes supervision, observations, coaching, and training Youth Mentors while managing their schedules efficiently.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and dynamic environment for students by consistently implementing classroom management strategies and discipline policies, while guiding Youth Mentors and sports staff to do the same.
  • Handle day-to-day program logistics, including managing locations, lesson plans, staff coverage, and parent communication.
  • Create and implement effective coverage plans to ensure smooth operations in the event of staff absences. When needed, you are also prepared to step in and personally cover duties to maintain consistency and quality in lunch, recess, or afterschool programs.
  • Ensure students experience engaging and effective afterschool lessons by developing lesson plans and assisting Youth Mentors in creating their own.
  • Oversee all aspects of sports programming, including scheduling games, securing coaches, coordinating logistics, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Provide overall supervision of lunch, recess, and afterschool operations, stepping in as the primary point of contact in the absence of the Director of Afterschool.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must be fluent in English and be U.S. citizen or resident or have work visas. A minimum of an associate degree is preferred, though equivalent training and relevant experience in school or afterschool programs will also be considered. In addition, they must demonstrate:

Exceptional People-Management Skills: You excel at building trust with your team, motivating volunteers and staff to achieve shared goals. You set clear expectations, provide timely feedback to address off-track results or behaviors, and coach team members to improve performance. When necessary, you can fairly enforce consequences to ensure accountability and growth.

Expertise in Student Engagement and Interaction: You create safe, fun, and effective learning environments while maintaining high student engagement. You excel at managing student behaviors, resetting when things go off course, and tailoring your approach to meet diverse learner needs. As a "warm demander," you balance building trusting relationships with holding students accountable for their participation and contribution to a positive learning experience. You are comfortable managing larger groups in dynamic, high-energy environments.

Strong Time-Management and Organizational Skills: This role requires balancing immediate, urgent tasks with long-term planning. You’ll oversee lesson plans, sports programs, and other projects, ensuring they run smoothly. The ability to manage your own time effectively, stay organized, and support others—such as the Director of Afterschool, teachers, and Youth Mentors—in achieving their goals is essential.

Calm and Effective Problem-Solving Under Pressure: You can remain composed in challenging situations, effectively de-escalating conflicts or resolving issues as they arise. Whether supporting students or team members, you approach difficulties with a solutions-oriented mindset, ensuring a positive and constructive outcome.

 

Salary, Benefits and Other Details: 

Workday. This position is a full-time role based at the Learning Community Charter School in Central Falls, Rhode Island. This position is expected to work 10:00-6:00pm Monday-Friday with a half hour lunch/break. 

Salary. For this role, our budgeted compensation is $50k per year.

Vacation and Benefits. In addition, we are proud to currently offer:

  • Medical Insurance: 95% paid by LC regardless of plan type (single, family, etc.) $8k-$20k value, depending on type of coverage.
  • 401k Retirement: No waiting period for voluntary contributions; 7% base salary match after 1 year of work. 3 years of work to be fully vested.
