College Intern - Ethics Hearing Board - Education & Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Pittsburgh's Ethics Hearing Board is offering a unique internship opportunity for creative students with an interest in education and engagement. Education is only effective if it’s memorable. During this internship, you will have the opportunity to create fun and entertaining training materials to educate fellow city employees. Our goal is to teach the basics of governmental ethics so that our public employees and officials can identify when they need to ask for advice or address a potential conflict of interest. Based on current availability of projects, interns may have the opportunity for project ownership to educate and engage a diverse audience on governmental ethics matters. What is governmental ethics? All the ways in which we seek to address conflicts of interest, and to ensure that public positions are being used to further the public good. 
Selected interns will be hired for summer of 2025.

REQUIREMENTS

 

GENERAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • For unpaid internships, City residency is not required.

 

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS: 

Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position.  You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

WORK EXPERIENCE: None required for this position. 

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last twelve (12) months.

EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position.

 

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

 

If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

POSITION DUTIES

 

  • Researches and/or develops an array of Ethics Hearing Board (EHB) engaging and memorable governmental ethics education, training and outreach programs for City of Pittsburgh departments, boards and commissions.
  • Brainstorms new initiatives designed to promote ethics, EHB, and its services.
  • Implements surveys and other methods to measure success and areas for improvement.
  • Creates entertaining educational and multi-media materials, presentations, and displays.
  • Administers routine training-related tasks such as, advertising, coordinating enrollment, scheduling classes, securing conference room and supplies, recording attendance, distributing training materials and surveys.
  • Performs general administrative and clerical office support.
  • Performs activities and functions of related personnel and such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
