Port of Stockton Police Department Intern
Summary:
The Port of Stockton internship program provides college students with “real world” professional work experience and the opportunity to gain marketable skills and insight into their potential career choices. The program is designed to provide students with exposure to jobs that fall within their scope of learning while gaining insight into specific business operations of the Port of Stockton to encourage pursuit of careers in maritime/port-related fields. The internship position is within the Police Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs access control and maintains security at gate entrances.
- Verifies and checks visitor identifications/credentials prior to allowing entry onto Port property.
- Performs dispatch duties utilizing the police radio and Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, telephone, and other security related software and computer systems.
- Monitors and checks security cameras and video surveillance of Port property.
- Job shadows Police Officers and Police Support Technicians to learn the daily functions of Police Department.
- Assists with security drills, exercises, Port security related administrative projects, and other projects.
- Updates police databases.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess excellent computer skills; MS Office and internet.
- College major in a related field such as criminal justice or maritime security.
- Ability to support law enforcement activities.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Port staff, tenants, and other contacts.
- Ability to research and interpret findings on subject matter.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently; a self-starter.
- Ability to focus and accomplish given tasks with moderate supervision.
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions.

- Must meet the qualifications as required by the Port of Stockton Internship Program Policy

- Also, attach a copy of a current unofficial transcripts showing an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better. Pass/no pass grading criteria will not be considered for overall grade point average requirement.
- If selected to advance in the recruitment process, you will be required to submit an official college transcript. Submit official college transcripts to Human Resources by email to humanresources@stocktonport.com.
- You are required to be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university in a field of study related to the business operations of the Port and have completed at least one-year of college coursework with letter grades both at the time of application. Must also provide proof of full-time acceptance and/or enrollment at an accredited college or university for the academic period immediately following the internship period. Undergraduate or graduate acceptance and/or full-time enrollment is acceptable.
- Must provide three (3) professional references who are not related to you, whom you have known at least two (2) years and who have knowledge of your work performance.
- Successful completion of background and reference check.
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Work Environment:
- Approximately June through August
- Required attendance at intern program events
- Work Schedule: Full-time (30+ hours per week)
- 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday- Friday
