Laboratory Operations Associate

Position type: Direct Hire

Pay rate: 30-37/hour

Overview

This person will work directly in the Operations department, reporting to the Laboratory Operations Manager, and will be naturally curious, results-driven, and eager to work in a small preclinical biotech environment. This unique role will be ideally suited for someone who has limited experience working in a biological laboratory, with a desire to pursue a career in laboratory operations, and a passion for the administrative and social planning work that supports a stellar team of scientists!

Responsibilities

Lab Operations 

  • Manage and passage human cell lines, including suspension and adherent cultures, under sterile conditions; dose and harvest cells with candidate drug compounds, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Prepare common-use media and reagents required for cell culture and laboratory workflows, along with kits and buffer aliquots for the Talus Bio drug discovery platform.
  • Perform routine maintenance and monitoring of common lab equipment, and coordinate/oversee outside vendors performing equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Track lab supplies inventory and perform the purchasing for all routine lab supplies.
  • Lead response to lab and equipment emergencies, including serving as deputy EH&S Officer.

Office Operations:

  • Lead the Events Committee and organize all Talus events and social activities, including ordering lunches.
  • Order all office, kitchen, and janitorial supplies, and act as the primary point of contact for janitorial and building staff.
  • Set up desks/workstations for new staff with IT peripherals, name tags, ID badges, building/garage access cards, etc.
  • Be responsible for the upkeep, organization, and tidiness of all common areas.
  • Help with travel arrangements and poster printing for scientists.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1-2 years of post-secondary education.
  • 1 year of experience with cell culture.
  • Experience working in a biological or chemistry laboratory (can be in college).
  • Strong desire to support all company operations, including lab work and leading office operations and events.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all work.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to wear many hats and shift priorities quickly; a team player with a decathlete mindset.

Preferred:

  • AS/AA or BS/BA degree in a biological science, chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture.
