Licensed Veterinary Technician

DuPont Veterinary Center is located just south of Tacoma and Joint Base Lewis-McCord and has been providing high quality and passionate care for the past 7 years. As the only veterinary clinic in the DuPont area, we proudly serve the furry family members of military and non-military families alike. We are a currently a 3 DVM practice specializing in dogs and cats. We utilize fear free and cat friendly handling techniques to help alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in all of our patients. DuPont Veterinary Center is a full service hospital with digital radiography, a new ultrasound machine, surgical suite, full dental capabilities, new IDEXX in-house laboratory equipment including the SediVue analyzer, and much more! We strive to cultivate a supportive and fun environment that encourages camaraderie and opportunities to grow. Outside of the hospital, our team loves to have fun by spending time with our four-legged friends, reading, table top games, and exploring the outdoors (Washington weather permitting of course!).

Job Requirements
 

Education & Licensing

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program

• Active Washington State Veterinary Technician License (or eligibility to obtain before start date)

• Successful completion of the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE)

• Passing score on the Washington State Jurisprudence Examination

 

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician (new graduates encouraged to apply)

• Proficiency in animal handling, restraint, and patient care

• Experience assisting in surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and dental cleanings

• Ability to perform laboratory tests (bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, etc.)

• Competence in radiology (X-rays), IV catheter placement, and medication administration

• Strong understanding of veterinary pharmacology and medical terminology

• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems

 

Soft Skills & Work Environment

• Excellent communication and client education skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

• Comfortable handling and treating nervous or aggressive animals

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Ability to lift up to 40+ pounds and stand for extended periods

 

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

• Certification in Fear Free Handling, CPR, or additional specialties
