Environmental Technician II

(Seasonal/Temporary: mid-March to mid-June)

Normandeau Associates, Inc., an employee-owned environmental consulting firm specializing in water and natural resources issues, has numerous positions available for temporary Environmental Technicians at our Peach Bottom, PA office for fisheries biology work located at Conowingo Dam in Maryland.

BASIC PURPOSE

Performs field tasks requiring basic skills as guided by a supervisor, which are primarily associated with the restoration of migratory fish on the Susquehanna River. Functions are often repetitive and routine.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist with the operation of two fish collection facilities at Conowingo Dam to trap and transport American Shad, river herring, and American Eels.

· Perform field, technical, and biological tasks requiring basic skills as guided by a supervisor.

· Maintain attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.

· Represents Company well.

· Adheres to Company health and safety policies.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS

Skill

· No specialized skill required, but fish handling and identification skills are preferred. Ability to pass fitness for duty testing (drug testing includes marijuana) at hydro facilities is required.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge can be readily gained through specialized or on-the-job training.

  • Requires responsibility for contributing to project, department and/or company

objectives.

Working Conditions

  • Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which may include

exposure to continuous physical elements or several disagreeable working conditions. Be willing to work extended shifts (up to 14.5 hours) or morning or afternoon shifts including weekends.

Physical Demands

  • Requires light to heavy work, including continuous walking or operating simple

equipment for extended periods of time as well as occasional strenuous activities such as reaching, bending, lifting, standing, or sitting.

Communication

· May require summarizing and presenting of data to project manager or supervisor. May make recommendations based on findings which contribute to solving problems and achieving work objectives.

Complexity

· Requires a combination of job functions to establish facts, to draw daily operational conclusions, or to solve simple problems.

Independent Action

  • Requires making routine decisions under general direction or in recommending

modifications in work procedures or approval by supervisor or project manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school graduate or G.E.D.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fisheries preferred but not required.

License/Certification

Valid driver’s license required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to pass fitness for duty testing (drug testing includes marijuana) at hydro facilities is required. Must abide by company and client safety protocols. Be willing to work extended shifts (up to 14.5 hours) including weekends.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS

Working knowledge of current techniques in the field of fisheries. Ability to use judgment in applying knowledge. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in oral, written, or graphic form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $18.00 - $18.50 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Extended hours
  • Monday to Friday
  • Morning shift
  • Overtime
  • Weekends as needed

Supplemental Pay:

  • Overtime pay
