PART TIME SEASONAL 

28.5 hours weekly   MAY -AUGUST 

STARTING PAY: $17.81 hour 
 

The State of New Hampshire, Fish and Game Department has a seasonal vacancy for a Biological Aide. MAY - AUGUST

Summary:
Assists in the data collection, analysis and implementation of Inland Fisheries research and management programs in compliance with agency policies and strategic initiatives. 

 

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of high school, G.E.D., or its equivalent. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years' experience in fisheries or wildlife conservation, commercial fishing, landscaping, carpentry, agriculture, outdoor recreation, or park management, including experience in operating or maintaining equipment.

License/Certification: Valid Driver’s License required. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the agency.

Special Requirements: Requires medium to heavy physical work with exposure to the elements, as well as being physically able to perform duties which include continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, lifting, walking, and operating machines or equipment. Must be in physical condition sufficient to perform remote field data and related duties under adverse weather conditions. 

 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Assists in sampling of freshwater fish species and collecting data on physical and chemical properties of freshwater habitats.
  •  
  • Conducts habitat and population sampling of various inland fish species, water quality testing and angler surveys.
  •  
  • Maintains Inland Fisheries databases and performs error checks on data entered prior to use by inter-department staff, other government agencies and the public.
  •  
  • Assists in maintaining fish ladders, boats, vehicles and other equipment or facilities within the Inland Fisheries Division.
  •  
  • Mounts scale samples and conduct laboratory analysis for Inland Fisheries Division programs.

 

The work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.
