Position Purpose:
Food Safety and Quality intern will be working on day-to-day activities in Quality related activities in the plant and lab. The work may involve different activities and projects which will be beneficial for Burnett Dairy as well as student to learn the quality process.
Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical and microbiological testing on finished cheese, milk, and bi-product samples.
- Aseptically plate samples to the proper application using correct dilutions (i.e. Coliform, Aerobic Plate Count, Yeast & Mold).
- Perform quality checks throughout production process areas, to ensure compliance to food safety and quality standards.
- Complete Daily KPIs and the Daily Report to share with Management
- Perform data analysis on the test results and identify deviations related to QA testing equipment calibrations.
- Complete daily and monthly calibration of lab equipment.
- Prepare samples for testing for outside laboratories.
- Review production paperwork and log paperwork errors in the database for continuous improvement.
- Perform cGMP, internal, environmental, and equipment audits as required.
- Assist with verifying facility prerequisite and preventative controls, auditing procedures and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
- Ability to manage multiple projects, time management, and attention to detail.
- Follow all written procedures and policies.
- Comply with all state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Follow all safety guidelines including the use of PPE to ensure health and safety of self and others.
- Provide independent oversight to processes, verify compliance with company standards and policies, and effectively communicate any deviations from standards or processes.
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers.
- All other duties as appropriate for the position.

Job Requirements:
Education/Experience
- Minimum of high School Diploma/GED.
- Preferably 1-3 years of experience in food manufacturing QA/QAC, and or laboratory experience in the food industry.
- Preferably an Associates Degree or higher in a technical scientific discipline such as Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Dairy Science, Animal Science, or related field.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge required, (Micorsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- High level of organizational skills, including written and verbal communication, creative problem solving, strong positive attitude and commitment to company goals.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of QA/QC activities.
- Ability to work independently with integrity.
Physical Demands:
- Occasionally required to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to climb stairs, bend, stoop, reach and lift above shoulders, kneel, balance, and crouch.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and use fine motor coordination throughout the entire shift.
Availability:
- Availability requirements include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as workload demands.
- Regular and dependable attendance is required.
- Some travel may be required.
