Community Health Intern

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern pursuing a degree in Community Health, Public Health, or a related field to join our team as a Community Health Intern. 

This internship opportunity will provide invaluable hands on experience in the field of community health, health education, and nonprofit work focused on improving the health and wellness of diverse populations.

 

Community Health Internship Responsibilities at Men’s Health Network

Interns at Men’s Health Network (MHN) will play an active role in supporting men’s health initiatives through research, program development, outreach, and education. This internship provides valuable experience for Community Health and Public Health majors interested in preventive care, health education, and nonprofit health advocacy. 

Interns will contribute to efforts that improve health outcomes for men and boys by participating in the following responsibilities:

1. Research & Analysis on Community Health Issues

  • Conduct research on preventive health, chronic disease management, health education, and health disparities affecting men and boys.
  • Analyze public health data to assess trends in screening rates, access to healthcare, and health behaviors.
  • Summarize findings into reports, fact sheets, and white papers to inform program development.
  • Support the development of evidence-based recommendations for men’s health initiatives.

2. Development & Implementation of Community Health Programs

  • Assist in designing community health programs that address key health challenges facing men.
  • Identify opportunities to expand men’s health initiatives in schools, workplaces, and local organizations.
  • Contribute to the implementation of awareness campaigns and preventive care programs that encourage screenings and early detection of health conditions.
  • Support program logistics, including scheduling, communication, and resource coordination.

3. Support for Health Education Workshops, Community Events & Health Fairs

  • Help organize health education events, screenings, and outreach activities aimed at increasing awareness of men’s health issues.
  • Coordinate with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community leaders to promote events.
  • Assist in event logistics, including registration, material distribution, and post-event evaluations.
  • Engage with attendees by providing health education materials and answering questions.

4. Development of Educational Materials & Health Promotion Resources

  • Collaborate with team members to create fact sheets, brochures, and PowerPoint presentations for community health promotion.
  • Ensure materials are accessible and effectively communicate key health messages to diverse audiences.
  • Assist in reviewing and refining existing health education content to improve clarity and effectiveness.

5. Evaluation of Community Health Programs

  • Assist in the collection of program participation data, feedback, and health impact assessments.
  • Help design surveys and evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness.
  • Analyze collected data to generate reports that highlight program outcomes and areas for improvement.
  • Support the creation of recommendations for enhancing men’s health education and outreach strategies.

6. Outreach & Partnership Development

  • Participate in outreach activities to connect with local organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and businesses that support men’s health.
  • Help build relationships with community partners to expand MHN’s health education and awareness efforts.
  • Support follow-up efforts with partners to coordinate future men’s health initiatives and events.

7. Communications & Public Health Messaging

  • Draft newsletters, blog posts, and educational content related to men’s health.
  • Contribute to written materials that promote MHN’s initiatives, health awareness campaigns, and upcoming events.
  • Assist in developing messaging that aligns with public health best practices and health communication strategies.

8. Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain accurate records of research findings, program data, and outreach efforts.
  • Organize materials, files, and resources for health programs and events.
  • Assist with data entry, report formatting, and general office tasks to support the smooth operation of MHN’s programs.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled (or a recent graduate) in an undergraduate or graduate program in Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to effectively communicate health information to diverse audiences.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interest in community health, public health education, and health promotion.
  • Basic knowledge of public health principles and community health practices.
  • Prior experience in community health, health education, or nonprofit work is always a plus.
