Departmental Specialist 13- Communications Access Specialist

The mission of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the operational arm of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, is enshrined in the Michigan Constitution: to investigate alleged discrimination and to secure the equal protection of civil rights. The Department fulfills its mission by investigating and resolving complaints of discrimination and promoting voluntary compliance with civil rights laws. 

The Division on Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing, part of MDCR’s Division on Disability Rights and Compliance, concentrates on helping to improve the lives of Michigan's deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing citizens. Their mission is affirming the indisputable right of persons who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing to secure effective communication. This position will function as a specialist and will provide internal guidance on best practices, cultural competencies, guidance and expertise on civil rights related matters and issues concerning the deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing community. The position is also responsible for providing referral services related to information about MDCR’s programs and services, including the DODDBHH.
 

This position is being filled as Limited Term.  There is a possibility that it may become permanent, but that is not guaranteed.
