The Alliance for Children's Rights is a nonprofit organization that provides free holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County and works to enact policy changes statewide. Our lawyers, advocates, and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work to ensure that those we serve have the tools to overcome barriers to stability and success, and access to the education, healthcare, and financial supports that they need. Job Description:

The Alliance is actively recruiting a healthcare intern for its challenging fall program. The healthcare intern will interact with potential Alliance clients and collaborate with Alliance staff, while learning about the Los Angeles County dependency system and the resources available to those involved in the system.

 

All students in our program receive rigorous training on child welfare laws and client intake. In addition, the healthcare interns work may include:

  • Advocating with the Department of Children and Family Services and medical providers to resolve issues related to Medi-Cal coverage and access to health care services
  • Attending collaborative community meetings related to health care
  • Serving as primary client contact on selected cases
  • Attending program case review
  • Improving oral and written advocacy skills

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Desire to work with foster youth and their caregivers.
  • Diversity highly valued.
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and with attention to detail. 
  • Spanish fluency strongly preferred. 
  • Ability to work full time (M-F 9:00a-5:30p PST) for 10 weeks in summer 2025. Internships are competitive. No split schedules considered.

Stipend:

The Alliance can provide a stipend up to $7,500 (for full-time graduate level students), or up to $5,000 (for full-time undergraduate level students).
