Legal Intern
The Role
Our internship program gives you true insight into a career in a fast-paced in-house legal department, while helping you develop highly sought-after skills that will help you jump start your career. You will be exposed to all facets of the legal function in a global corporate department. The position is located downtown Chicago in our corporate headquarters in Willis Tower.
Interns will work on assigned projects with all members of Heidrick & Struggles’ Legal Department and under the supervision of the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsels. The general expectation is that you’ll be in the office at minimum two days a week.
Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and internal memos.
- Conduct legal research and preparation of written materials and memoranda to guide members of the Legal Department.
- Assist in employment law matters.
- Conduct legal research and application of regulations to Company practices.
- Prepare and assist with the presentation of legal training across our business lines.
- Work to improve operational aspects of internal Legal Department functions.
- Participate in other special projects and various other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled as a 1L or 2L law student with strong academic credentials.
- Basic knowledge of corporate law, including but not limited to: contract law, employment law, and federal securities laws.
- Strong analytical and legal writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle fast-paced/customer-focused environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional services background preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with team members and key stakeholders.
Pay Range Guidelines for this Position:
The hourly range for this position is 27.50 USD to 27.50 USD. Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience and skills.
