Title: Logistics Specialist
Report to: Director of Global Logistics
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Logistics Specialist Position Purpose and Objectives
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for the global logistics network operating performance and day-to-day management, develops strategies to optimize global logistics networks related to transportation mode, carrier performance, end-to-end transportation costs, and transportation lane efficiency, and delivers process improvement solutions generating value through performance improvements and cost efficiencies.
Logistics Specialist Essential Job Functions
Domestic Freight:
- Update inbound material reports for purchasing
- Provide and obtain rate quotes for freight shipments (FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, intermodal, air freight, parcel package)
- Troubleshoot motor freight carrier issues
- Determine freight class by commodity and density
- Provided timely answers on freight payment inquiries
- Track and file claims with carriers
- Assist in annual freight bids through consolidation of data; validates carrier FMCSA ratings and insurance
- Coordination for expedited ground and air shipments
Import/Export:
- Assist in determining HTS and Schedule B codes
- Supervises the customs clearance process for required documentation, tracks ISF filings and import container status
- Complete required documentation for USMCA shipments
- Complete Shipper’s Letter of Instructions (SLI)
TMS
- Works with TMS service provider to resolve issues
- Updates routing guides
- Reconcile spot quotes with freight bills
- Identify and communicate chargeback shipments from TMS data and reports
- Ensures rates on file are up to date
- Submit invoices for payment
- Verify and approve TMS invoice services charges
- Verify and submit TMS freight charges with necessary GL account corrections
- Coordinate sending payments to the TMS service provider
- Monitors freight audit exceptions
Logistics Specialist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Knowledge and understanding of basic freight terms
- Math skills to compute weight/measure calculations
- Math skills to compute pounds per cubic foot
- Written and verbal communication skills
- SAP experience
- Experience working with TMS systems
- Organizational skills
- Basic understanding of HTS and Schedule B codes and units
- Process UPS and FedEx shipments
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Understands deficit weights, fuel surcharge tables (FTL, LTL, and intermodal)
- Data and supply chain analytics

Logistics Specialist Working Conditions
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, and filing cabinets.
- This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some movement is required to access areas by stairs, at long distances across the facility, and at other buildings.
- Enters warehouse and production environments, requiring the ability to detect and avoid hazards and moving around obstacles, including moving equipment
Logistics Specialist Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time
- Bachelor's degree in business / supply chain or Logistics
- Needs to frequently move about inside and outside the office to coordinate with other offices, attend meetings, and check inventory
- Constantly able to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Frequently communicates verbally with other employees in person or on the phone
- Must be able to detect obstacles in the warehouse
- Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds across the facility under 5% of the time
- Occasionally ascends and descends stairs to enter and depart different areas
- Reliable personal transportation
