Position Overview:
The Director of Special Education, Student Services & Federal Programs provides strategic leadership and oversight in ensuring equitable access to education for all students, particularly those requiring specialized support. This role supervises special education services, student support initiatives, and federal program compliance while fostering a culture of inclusivity, academic success, and well-being for all student populations. This position reports directly to the Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
Special Education & Student Support:
- Oversee compliance and implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure high-quality special education services.
- Ensure Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance for student accommodations and accessibility.
- Manage and oversee Section 504 plans, ensuring appropriate accommodations and services for eligible students.
- Supervise behavior specialists and intervention programs, promoting positive behavioral support strategies.
- Lead the Emergency Safety Intervention (ESI) Team to provide crisis response and behavioral support.
Early Childhood & Preschool Programs:
- Direct the Special Education Preschool program, ensuring tailored services for preschool-aged children with disabilities.
- Oversee Tuition-Based Community Preschool options, expanding access to early childhood education.
Student Services & Well-Being:
- Lead School Mental Health Services, implementing initiatives to support students’ emotional and psychological well-being.
- Manage services for Students in Transition, ensuring stability and educational continuity for those facing displacement.
- Oversee McKinney-Vento Homeless Services, ensuring compliance and support for homeless students.
- Supervise Refugee Services, providing educational access and social support for refugee students.
- Manage comprehensive Student Services initiatives to enhance student success and school climate.
Federal Programs & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance and program effectiveness for Title VI, supporting educational equity for Native American students.
- Oversee Title IV SSAE (Student Support and Academic Enrichment) grants, ensuring funding is allocated effectively.
- Manage Title II professional development funding to enhance educator growth and instructional quality.
- Serve as the Title IX Coordinator, ensuring compliance with gender equity regulations and addressing related concerns.
Specialized & Federal Programs:
- Direct English Language Learner (ELL) programs, supporting language acquisition and academic success for multilingual students.
- Manage Dual Immersion bilingual education programs, promoting linguistic and cultural proficiency.
- Oversee Title I services, supporting schools with high percentages of low-income students.
- Lead Title III Services, strengthening multilingual education and English Learner (EL) support programs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Valid administrative license.
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience in special education, student services, or federal programs.
- In-depth knowledge of IDEA, ADA, Section 504, Title I, Title IX, and other federal education programs.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
