Summer Camp Swing Staff (multi faceted role)

Swing Staff like all CMO staff are role models and leaders for groups of children ages 6 to 14 across our two summer day camp programs (Adventure Academy and Discovery Day Camp). They are caring, playful, and willing to participate in and assist campers in a variety of activities. They are responsible for the physical, social, and emotional well-being of campers. We focus on hands-on learning experiences for a fantastic, dynamic summer experience. A Swing staff will work as both a program facilitator running participants through our adventure elements, a counselor guiding our campers through their general daily activities and extra set of helpful hands throughout our summer camp program.

 

II.  Essential Responsibilities 

- Mandatory participation in pre-camp training, M-F, June 2 - June 13, 2025, and additional adventure elements training.

- Camp runs weekdays for 8 weeks, June 16 through August 8, 2025

- Co-lead camp activities, including team-building games and initiatives, crafts, hiking and creeking, awards, adventure elements, and recognitions.

-Safely operate systems used for all adventure elements programming.

-Safely set-up and secure equipment at the beginning and end of each day.

- Actively manage camper's physical and emotional well-being and behavior and apply age-appropriate management techniques when necessary.

- Lead by setting a good example for other counselors and campers.

- Collaborate with the camp team to deliver a safe, friendly, high-energy program to enrolled campers.

- Engage parents/guardians in brief conversations when appropriate.

- Engage with supervisors and parents regarding concerns, challenges, and updates on campers.

- Support and enforce agency operating procedures and safety protocols.

- Submit all paperwork in a timely manner, including incident reports.

- Maintain CPR/First Aid training (provided by CMO May 29th and 30th 8:00 AM – 12 PM, must attend both days for successful completion of course.) In lieu of course, a current card expiring after August 8th, 2025 will be accepted.

- Perform other duties as assigned

IV.  Work Experience and Education

- 18+ years old as of the first day of training.

- Prior work experience with children or customer service preferred

- One year of adventure element or recreation experience preferred

- High school diploma preferred

- Previous experience with summer camps, challenge courses, organized sports preferred.

- Requires satisfactory background check   

- CPR/First Aid certification (offered during training)

 

V. Physical and Mental Requirements

- Ability to perform duties while outdoors and exposed to a variety of weather conditions and terrain.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Ability to spend approximately 90% of the time on the job standing, bending and lifting

- Ability to convey a sense of fun while leading a learning activity

- Strong communication skills with temperament and ability to convey information to individuals at all levels of skill development and backgrounds

- Ability to act quickly and decisively in emergencies

- Strong work ethic and high level of trust

- Basic knowledge of computers for accurate record keeping (camp specific)

- Self-starter with strong self-directing and time management skills

- Ability to learn techniques and procedures

- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in formal and informal settings

- Ability to collaborate with others

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
