Job Description

 

 

 

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Civil Rights Bureau is seeking a student intern who is looking for hands-on experience with Civil Rights programs. 

 

As a Civil Rights Bureau administrative intern at the IA DOT, you will assist in developing civil rights procedural manuals for Title VI, ADA and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) programs. In this position, you will also work to update the Iowa DOT’s Limited English Proficiency (LEP) plan. As the Civil Rights administrative intern, you will work cooperatively with the Civil Rights staff, Civil Rights Committee, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)/FTA liaisons, DOT managers and supervisors to ensure that the procedural manuals include all required updates. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

This student will support a team of five by assisting in the preparation of standard data reports, conducting surveys to obtain program information, preparing draft markups and records maintenance, assisting in the establishment of benchmarks and internal controls. The student intern will have the opportunity to assist in the analysis of informational reports; analyze survey data for accuracy, completeness and consistency; and develop appropriate reporting formats.

 

This position will also help with processing and distributing the mail/email correspondence on a daily basis; preparation of the Civil Rights Bureau’s annual MINK conference; generating the monthly Office of Federal Contractor Compliance reports and assisting in the gathering of documentation for the annual FHWA 1392 report. 


 

Duration: Part time during the school year (20 hours per week)

Full time during the summer months (40 hours per week). 


 

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements

 

 

 

Currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution.
