Manager in Training

Haley Automotive Group is a Richmond-based automobile dealer group established in 1972. The company has grown from its one original location into the eleven dealerships we have operating today across central Virginia. The success of the Haley Automotive Group has come from hard work, dedicated and competent staff, practicing business in an ethical manner, and strong leadership. This program is designed to build future leaders in the Retail Automotive Industry in a streamlined and accelerated manner. Trainees will be expected to understand each department at a deep level while working alongside managers. The ultimate goal is to bring college-educated, driven and passionate individuals into the group to help strengthen and advance Haley Automotive in a changing industry. By the end of the program the Management in Training team will have worked in Service, Parts Operations, Body Shop Management, Sales, Marketing and Accounting. The end goal is to have a proficient and forward-thinking management team to advance the Haley family.  

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

 

There are estimated time frames assigned to each position, but ultimately, those times will vary depending on the performance of the participant. Below is a list of the different areas participants will experience while in the Haley Automotive Management Training Program. Your path through the process will be determined by position availability within the departments.  Total Estimated Time is 29-48 months to complete the program

 

Service Department:    (6-10 months)

(ASM) This position will involve close interaction with not only the customer, but also with technicians (mechanics) and parts counter employees. Some of the duties include scheduling service appointments, customer follow-up, and consulting with customers on recommended services and repairs. While in this position, you will acquire skills in time management, organization, communication, phone skills, sales, and computer systems/programs associated with the Service Department.

 

Parts Department:    (4-8 months)

This is also a customer facing position, however, the majority of your interaction will be with technicians and ASMs, and not with the walk-in retail customer. The Service Department is the Parts Department’s number one customer. You will also be dealing with body shops, other service centers and dealerships requiring parts, mainly via the telephone. While in this position, you will acquire skills in organization, phone skills, communication, and computer systems/programs associated with the Parts Department.

 

Body Shop:    (4-6 months)

While in this capacity, you will learn the inner workings of a body shop. Some of the duties include scheduling appointments with customers, writing repair estimates for vehicles with body damage, interacting with insurance companies, following up

with customers, and expediting the work flow of vehicles in the body shop for repairs. You will acquire skills in organization, phone skills, communication, time management, and use of the computer systems/programs associated with the Body Shop.

 

Accounting Office.   (3-6 months)

There are several different positions that you will become familiar with while working in the accounting office. Some of these positions are Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Title Clerk, Human Resources and Payroll, Record Keeping, and Data Entry. This experience will help you understand the financial side of the business and you will have a first-hand view of what goes on “behind the scenes”. You will have very little contact with the public in this capacity, but you will have regular phone interaction with managers at all of the Haley stores. While in this position, you will become very familiar with the deeper workings of the Dealer Management System (DMS).

 

Sales Department:    (12-18 months)

Sales is the foundation of our business and will be the longest stop on your path to a management position. You will go through a sales training class where you will learn the “10 Step Road to the Sale” process. You will learn more about the features and benefits of the vehicles in our inventory, which will enable you to provide any prospective customer with an exceptional shopping experience. While in the Sales Department you will be dealing with the public on a daily basis. You will become proficient in the art of negotiating while maintaining an excellent reputation and high manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Index scores (CSI).
