Research and Development Intern

Helena is seeking undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the School of Agricultural Sciences or similar educational discipline interested in seasonal internships with our Research and Development (R&D) teams. We offer hands on experience with a variety of agricultural crops throughout the Central Valley and Central Coast. Part-time positions are available during the semester and full-time positions are available during the summer.

Helena’s R&D Interns provide general assistance in setup, implementation and evaluation of efficacy and residue research trials. They also assist other departments with various projects to gain an understanding of Helena's business processes.  This intern position offers lots of opportunities for exposure to other departments and team members that work with key clients and companies we provide services for.

 

What your day may look like

  • Works on assigned projects with different teams. Some of these projects may include: chemical applications, sample collection and evaluating test plots.
  • Assists with calculations for sprayer calibration and application rate.
  • Conducts maintenance duties such as running irrigation and tracking for secondary pests.
  • Completes proper paperwork as needed.
  • Enters data into the computer system.
  • Searches and investigates information contained in files, inserts additional data in file records, completes reports, keeps files current and supplies information from file data or removes files upon request.
  • Types labels and reports. 
  • Opens and distributes mail.
  • Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by your leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

 

Education and experience needed for this position

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • Minimum of one year of college is required.

Other skills that will help you succeed

 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

The work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
