Role Overview
RTW Investments, LP is seeking individuals interested in joining our team in the role of Research Specialist Intern. Our team primarily consists of individuals with advanced medical and science degrees who research, identify, and invest in innovative next-generation therapeutics and devices. Our goal is simple: to impact patient’s lives.
Our Asset Selection team works with and supports both public and private companies as well as academics and entrepreneurs. We are also actively engaged in forming new companies through our own in-house discovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities
In the role of Research Specialist, you will support and enhance the work of the Asset Selection team. This is not an investment analyst position. However, training received in this role will be relevant to investment analysis in biotech.
RTW Research Specialists are part of our growing Research-Data Management Department. The focus of this role will be to assist the Asset Selection team in gathering and organizing scientific data. This information is collected from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, literature, scientific and medical meetings, as well as thought leader interviews. In addition to curating this data, the candidate will help the team build more robust database systems to efficiently track, store, and recall this information rapidly. In this role, Research Specialists will have an opportunity to build expertise in specific disease areas, working closely to support the Asset Selection Analysts.
The Research Specialists also play an integral role in identifying innovative ways to make research more efficient for the Asset Selection team. Research Specialists work with the Asset Selection team MDs to identify and resolve research process inefficiencies, often working with new or existing Research vendors. Critical thinking, problem solving, and project management are key skills required for this role.
This role is expected to attend weekend conferences as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- BS/MS or recent PhD degree in the life sciences
- Enjoys constant exposure to new information, is detail oriented, extremely organized, and possesses strong communication skills
- Can efficiently capture, collect, distill, and curate scientific data from medical conferences
- Able to present results clearly in multiple formats, including but not limited to creating slide decks, building and maintaining data spreadsheets, and summarizing key takeaways in expert call transcripts
- Ability to attend in-person, domestic and international medical and scientific conferences
- Ability to interact with key opinion leaders (KOLs) is a plus but not required. However, Research Specialists are expected to, with experience, develop a network of KOL relationships and be able to conduct KOL interviews independently
- Proficiency/familiarity with research library management (such as RMS tools) and database tools is a plus
- Works well in groups, with capacity to mentor junior employees and support senior team members
- Ability to execute a project within provided timelines while maintaining clear communication
- Previous experience as an industry-trained scientist, medical librarian or medical science liaison, investor relations, or expert network professional considered a plus
- Managerial experience desirable but not required
- Project management experience considered a plus
This a full time paid 12-week internship based in NYC. For exceptional candidates, there may be an opportunity to extend the internship beyond the initial 12-week period.
