Student Advocate

The S.A.F.E. program meets children where they are, in the classroom, to support their mental and behavioral health. Modeled after the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, the S.A.F.E. program assigns college students, called Student Advocates, to K-5 grade students on request from North County elementary schools. Student Advocates receive training on trauma-informed care, social emotional learning and tutoring for reading and math. Working one-on-one or in small groups with students, Student Advocates can help to untangle a complex mix of behavior and academic struggles.

Student Advocates work with teachers to obtain the necessary academic and behavioral health interventions for children. Supporting and when necessary, funding professional help, this program can prevent further escalation of behavior.

We are seeking college students who are actively pursuing a undergraduate degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice and/or Counseling.

*This opportunity is not for those seeking practicum hours.*
