Naturalist Intern

The Cape May Whale Watcher is accepting applications and scheduling interviews for the 2025 season!

Job Summary:

This is a marine position which includes assisting in whale, dolphin and bird identifications, interacting directly with customers, answering ocean and marine related questions, participating in photo taking and video, recording photo identification of individual marine mammals such as bottlenose dolphins and humpback whales.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Photography (must show proficiency with telephoto lens, prefer applicants have a photography back ground and own equipment, but not a deal breaker)

-A desire to help the environment through our clean ocean initiative to pick up balloons and other debris

-interacting and talking with passengers as well as keeping them safe in areas around the boat

-Not getting seasick

-Experience on boats and a love of the sea is a big plus

-Provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all customers

-Contributes to the safe operation of vessels and equipment

-Responds decisively and effectively to emergency situations

-Cleaning of the boat if you wish to be included in tips

Requirements

-Possess excellent customer service skills

-Ability to understand relevant policies and procedures and safety techniques

-Ability to provide superior customer service to everyone by responding in a courteous and efficient manner

- Heavy lifting of items from ropes, ramps, catering items, stock items etc

-Must be at least 18 years old

- High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent related experience

-Subject to a background investigation

-Subject to a pre-employment physical and regulatory drug testing

Preferred

Previous boating skills, knowledge, experience, licenses and/or certifications

Photography skills, portfolio of current work, a mind for science, and a desire to educate individuals about ocean conservation, whale conservation, the importance of whales to the environment and the planet, and the need to curb plastic use, and help the earth

Internship Compensation:
