LITIGATION ASSISTANT
ST. CHARLES COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY
Starting Salary: $56,142.83 per year

JOB DESCRIPTION: The litigation assistant performs a variety of legal work and tasks to provide support and assistance to the assigned Attorney from case initiation until case disposition, including trial preparation. This position may telecommute occasionally.
- Drafts legal documents including pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories, files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Prepares and submits court and investigative subpoenas for law enforcement and case attorneys.
- Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
- Attends meetings with case attorneys, evidence technicians, investigators, etc. to assist attorney in the selection of trial evidence and detail exhibit preparations.
- Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files.
- Prepares cases for trial when directed. This includes assisting at trials with voir dire and jury selection, exhibits, witness contacts and preparation, and note taking during trial.
- Prepares, sends, tracks, and retrieves evidence to/from Attorney General for appeals.
- Represents the State in misdemeanor docket, Director of Revenue cases, jury trials, motion and bond hearings, preliminary hearings, and guilty pleas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Requires an Associate's Degree or diploma program in Criminal Justice, Paralegal studies, or a related field, or 5 years of progressively responsible paralegal experience. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skill, and abilities may be considered.
Certifications
- Paralegal certificate required.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Requires extensive working knowledge of legal terminology and legal proceeding processes.
