Recreation Specialist (TR-DAY CAMPS)

Under the immediate supervision of the Program Director, the Recreation Specialist (TR-Day Camps) is responsible for the facilitation of recreation and leisure activities in a day camp setting specifically designed for teens and young adults with disabilities. 

 

knowledge of:
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Principles and methods for the planning and implementation of recreation and leisure activities for individuals and groups with disabilities.
Disabilities and the effects on recreation and leisure skills.
 
Skills to:
Adjust actions in relation to others. Actively look for ways to help people.
Talk to participants to convey information effectively.
 
Ability to:
Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
Listen and understand information and ideas presented through various types of communication.  

Required Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older.

One year experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.

Must be able to lift and/or transfer individual with disability independently or assisted. Must be able to swim and be in the water to provide support to individuals with disabilities.

Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in: CPR/ First Aid Certification; Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

Certification must be acquired and maintained as part of employment.
