Instructional Coach (Upper School)

Title:  Instructional Coach (Upper School)
Purpose of Position To provide instructional coaching, support, training and mentoring For Teachers   

Employment Status:  Full-time Reporting

Reports toPrincipal

Location:  Assigned campus

 

Essential Functions:

Demonstrate Knowledge of Supervision of Instruction

  • Develop a shared instructional vision among all teachers and staff.
  • Embrace a systematic use of formative assessment data to guide learning and drive instruction.
  • Align Louisiana standards with the French Curriculum and the American Montessori Society Standards.
  • Develop intervention programs for students in English, French and Math who are below expected levels in these subjects.
  • Strengthen special education programming in compliance with special education laws, to ensure success for students with special needs.
  • Build extra-curricular and enrichment programs that provide high quality offerings.

Create an Environment of Respect and Rapport

  • Encourage and model respectful talk, active listening and turn taking.
  • Acknowledge students’ backgrounds and lives outside of the classroom.
  • Exhibit body language indicative of warmth and caring to students.
  • Encourage and model politeness and support for all community members.
  • Encourage and model fairness in all interactions.
  • Establish high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Place an emphasis on preparing students for a well-rounded life.
  • Partner with external organizations that enrich the culture of the school through service learning opportunities as well as life and cultural experiences.
  • Maintain a student support system which addresses student academic and behavioral needs.

Establish a Culture for Learning

  • Demonstrate a belief in the value of what is being learned and the Montessori and\or French instructional pedagogies.
  • Encourage high expectations, supported through both verbal and nonverbal  behaviors, for both learning and participation.
  • Encourage and recognize effort and persistence on the parts of students.
  • Create a culture that promotes high expectations for expression and work products.
  • Establish smooth functioning schoolwide routines with little or no loss of instructional time.
  • Create schoolwide routines where students play an important role in carrying out the routines.

Display Professionalism and Commitment to the Audubon Community:

  • Reflect and refine leadership based on feedback from others and self-reflection.
  • Create systems and routines that track student metrics to improve both academic and socio-emotional outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress.
  • Frequently and in a way that is culturally appropriate, communicate with families regarding the program and student progress.
  • Cultivate positive two-way communication between school and families.
  • Create frequent opportunities for families to engage in the learning process.
  • Regularly create frequent opportunities for colleagues to work collaboratively to share and plan for student success.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities that emphasize improving practice.
  • Regularly initiate school activities which further the mission of the school.
  • Regularly initiate activities which emphasize community service.
  • Support students even in the face of difficult situations or conflicting policies.
  • Fulfill organizational mandates regarding policies and procedures.

Education, Training and Experience:

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the level
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Certification or ability to gain certification as a Teacher Leader
  • Experience in and/or understanding of the public school system including charter schools is desirable

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Education
