
Medical Laboratory Technician
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Responsible for operation of the laboratory.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s Degree or higher (Associates – MLT or Bachelors – MT)
- Licensed through the LSBME required
- Medical laboratory experience preferred
- Ability to assess and respond to the needs of patients and families in varied settings; ability to cope with family emotional stress, and tolerance of individual lifestyles.
- Strong written/verbal communication, organizational and customer service skills a must.
- Good physical stamina, mental health and personal hygiene habits.
- Strong attention to detail
- Good oral, written and organizational skills; computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office software
- Understands the healthcare philosophy of care and has empathy for the ill, along with their loved ones.
- Proven experience and ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Ability to read, follow directions, work independently, and operate mobile documentation device.
- Exceptional organizational skills, effective time management, ability to multi-task while still paying close attention to detail
- Ability to take initiative and to see projects through to completion.
- Ability to work collaboratively and compassionately with other staff in a fast growing, fast paced, and changing work environment.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Laboratory Manager and/or the Director of Ancillary Services.
DUTIES/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and immunology.
- Report test results following clinic protocols alerting providers and/or nurses about abnormal results.
- Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keeping.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and records.
- Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, troubleshoot and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
- Comply with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
