City of Hampton Internship Program

The City of Hampton Internship Program (CHIP) offers a unique and dynamic learning experience for students looking to apply their academic skills in a real-world setting. Participants in this program will engage in hands-on projects, support daily operational tasks, visit key sites in the city, and engage with key stakeholders, providing an immersive experience of the workings of city governance. Interns will assist with performance analysis and customer engagement, contributing to the center’s commitment to delivering outstanding customer service. This internship provides hands-on experience in data analysis, quality assurance, and service management, allowing interns to develop key professional skills. The American Theatre

This performing arts intern will support on-site event production by assisting with lighting plots, sound mixing, stage setup, and show advancement. Budget Division

Interns will gain firsthand experience in public sector budgeting, financial analysis, and policy development. Responsibilities include research, data analysis, document formatting, and process improvement initiatives, all of which directly impact the city’s budget planning. Coliseum

  • Marketing & Communications Internship: Assist with event promotion, advertising, and social media strategy for events at the Hampton Coliseum. This is a great opportunity for students interested in marketing and public relations.
  • Event Production & Coordination Internship: Gain experience in event operations, technical production, and customer service. Interns will assist in coordinating with show promoters and tour managers, support stage setup, sound and lighting operations, and more.

Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB)

Interns will gain hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, and tourism while supporting preparations for the Hampton VA250 commemorations. As part of this internship, students will play a vital role in planning and promoting events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, gaining valuable experience in large-scale event coordination, community engagement, and destination marketing. Criminal Justice Agency (CJA)

Intern will shadow and collaborate with probation officers and pretrial staff as well as assist with case documentation and conflict resolution. The intern will also participate in gathering data and analyzing efforts to reduce recidivism rates. This experience will provide an understanding of ethical considerations, legal processes and developing skills in client communication and crisis management.
