Elementary Teacher

Job Title: Elementary Teacher

Reports To: Principal
Location: Genoa Christian Academy / Westerville, Ohio
Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Lower Academy Teacher at Genoa Christian Academy (GCA) is responsible for providing a Christ-centered, biblically-integrated education to students in an elementary classroom. This position requires the teacher to plan and deliver engaging lessons, foster a nurturing and spiritually enriching environment, and partner with parents in the development of each child’s spiritual, academic, and social growth. The teacher is called to model Christ-like behavior, serve as a spiritual mentor, and guide students in alignment with Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership

  • Create a classroom atmosphere that reflects a commitment to Christ and the school’s mission.
  • Lead students in prayer, devotionals, and discussions about biblical principles and their application to life and learning.
  • Integrate biblical truth into all subjects, helping students view the world through a Christian perspective (e.g., Colossians 3:17: "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus").
  • Encourage students to grow in their relationship with Christ and develop Christ-like character.

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver biblically-integrated lesson plans that meet academic standards and align with the school’s curriculum.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, supporting their individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments, communicating results effectively with parents.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities, technology, and creative teaching methods to enhance learning.

Classroom Management

  • Foster a loving, safe, and respectful classroom environment where students can thrive spiritually, academically, and socially.
  • Establish and enforce clear classroom expectations in alignment with biblical principles, such as Ephesians 4:2: "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."
  • Address student behavior with grace and discipline, encouraging personal accountability and growth.

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Partner with parents to support their child’s spiritual and academic growth, maintaining open and regular communication.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and other opportunities to build relationships within the school community.
  • Act as a positive representative of the school’s Christian mission and vision in all interactions.

Professional Development

  • Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to grow spiritually and professionally.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the educational program and ensure consistency across grade levels.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and seek continuous improvement through prayer, mentorship, and feedback.

Qualifications:

Spiritual Qualifications

  • A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, demonstrated by regular involvement in a local church.
  • Agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith and a commitment to integrating biblical principles into teaching.
  • A passion for Christian education and the spiritual development of children.

Educational and Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
  • Valid teaching certification or the ability to obtain one (preferred).
  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary classroom (preferred).

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a classroom effectively.
  • A heart for discipleship and the ability to model Christ-like character.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday during school hours, with occasional evenings or weekends for school events or meetings.
