Affordable Housing Paralegal

Elliott, Ostrander & Preston, PC (“EOP”) is a mid-sized law firm seeking an experienced real estate paralegal to join our affordable housing and real estate practice in downtown Portland, Oregon.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drafting formation, transaction and closing documents
  • Reviewing, organizing and compiling various due diligence items
  • Initial reviewing of title and survey documents
  • Coordinating with various parties, including title companies, surveyors, consultants, lenders, investors and clients
  • Forming and maintaining business entities
  • Ordering and reviewing lien and judgment searches
  • Finalizing real estate documents from beginning through closing, and post-closing 
  • Preparing and developing project and organizational charts 
  • Coordinating the collection and review of various documents, including loan agreements, partnership agreements, legal opinions, and business formation documents

Expected Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Work Location: In person at 707 SW Washington, Suite 1500, Portland, Oregon 97205

Paralegal Qualifications and Skills:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience with commercial real estate, affordable housing and/or HUD affordable multifamily housing programs as a paralegal or legal assistant is preferred
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Legal research and investigation skills
  • Knowledge of real estate documents and corporate formation documentation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and assignments
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Flexibility  

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheet software, including Word and Excel
  • Experience drafting, cite-checking, and reviewing various kinds of contracts and loan documents 
  • Experience managing medium to large-scale document intensive matters
  • Working knowledge and competency with case management software
