Chemistry Laboratory Intern

We offer a full-time, paid summer internship in our laboratory. Work consists of several independent projects, including materials testing, adhesive formulation, process and quality control, and other product development assignments. Our company produces cable installation lubricants, precision cleaners, and construction sealants/adhesives for the global electrical and telecommunications markets. Polywater is the technological leader in this market niche, developing innovative products, and publishing original research. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with our team to optimize product formulations using Design of Experiment software.
  2. Research lubricant application and how to scale it up. Build on our body of original research.
  3. Extensive work on measuring kinetic and static coefficients of friction along with other variables that may affect either measurement.
  4. Measure the effects of real-world installation parameters on adhesive/sealant performance.
  5. Work includes test development, product formulation, and manufacturing support. Chemistries include water-soluble polymers, solvents, urethanes, and epoxies.

Qualifications:

  1. Pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with a 2.8 GPA and at least sophomore standing.
  2. Chemical laboratory experience, including knowledge of chemical hygiene and safe chemical handling. Knowledge of basic weighing and measuring equipment.
  3. Good technical writing and communication skills with the ability to author lab reports and create presentations for a broad audience.
  4. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  5. Design-build and/or construction experience is a plus, but not required.
  6. Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer.

Our growing company provides an excellent opportunity to obtain broad exposure to chemical product development, technical service, quality control, and process engineering. The position involves extensive bench work and hands-on projects. We will train you, but self-motivation is expected. 

We will begin scheduling interviews for this position in late February or early March.
