About the Department

The Marketing and Communications Department set our brand tone. They construct and magnify stories and messages to help and inspire people through running, across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. They connect with the world's best athletes and ambassadors to deepen NYRR's mission. They leverage channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life. Broadcast & Video Production team oversees NYRR’s live television broadcasts, including the TCS New York City Marathon and United Airlines NYC Half, and manages the organizations video content creation with a focus on developing compelling and entertaining video content around existing events, programs, and initiatives to raise awareness, drive engagement, and attract monetization opportunities for the organization.

About the Internship

The New York Road Runners Internship Program is a paid, 21-week experience spanning from Monday, June 16, 2025 to Friday, November 14, 2025, in which interns will learn from the best in the non-profit business.

 

Interns will work collaboratively with professionals in their field of study and will have opportunities to network across the organization. The program will include professional development events and a chance to make a direct impact on the communities in New York City by working select events. Interns will receive onboarding and training to learn about NYRR and gain the knowledge needed to best perform in their role.

The Digital Marketing Intern will work with the Marketing and Communications Department, which constructs and magnifies stories and messages to help and inspire people through running across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. The Digital Marketing team:

  • Communicates different messages, including promoting our races and our coaching products, clarifying logistical processes about those races and products, celebrating the diversity and experience of the running community, telling the story of NYRR’s mission-driven work, supporting fundraising and membership, and more.
  • Leverages channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race-day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life.

Intern Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

  • Assist with website marketing strategy and provide updates on data tracking
  • Assist with website marketing requests and updates to the NYRR website
  • Partner with social media team to help deliver content for Facebook and Instagram
  • Partner with the Email Marketing team to assist with Rising New York Road Runners and Community initiatives email campaigns
  • Provide quality assurance for email campaigns for the TCS New York City Marathon and other weekly events

Internship Schedule

Interns are expected to work 25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, in a hybrid work setting. This role will also have weekend work (Saturdays or Sundays) to support NYRR events. Dates will be determined at the start of the internship and availability will be taken into account.

Internship Requirements:

  • Sophomore or junior in college, working towards a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, and content management systems
  • The ability to be outside in the elements for the duration of event shifts
