About the Department

The Event Development and Production Department develops and produces NYRR events from concepts all the way through execution in alignment with NYRR’s mission. The TCS New York City Marathon, United Airlines NYC Half and the RBC Brooklyn Half are just a few of the 40+ adult events and 30+ Rising New York Road Runners youth events produced by the team each year. The team leads core elements of the operations including physical site management, timing and scoring operations, volunteer management, hospitality and special events, safety and security, management of our warehouse and all race collateral, city and state agency relationship management, and permitting.

About the Internship

The New York Road Runners Internship Program is a paid, 21-week experience spanning from Monday, June 16, 2025 to Friday, November 14, 2025, in which interns will learn from the best in the non-profit business.

 

Interns will work collaboratively with professionals in their field of study and will have opportunities to network across the organization. The program will include professional development events and a chance to make a direct impact on the communities in New York City by working select events. Interns will receive onboarding and training to learn about NYRR and gain the knowledge needed to best perform in their role.

As a member of the events team, the intern will play a part in the day-to-day function of executing our events.  Given the number of races we produce annually, especially the TCS New York City Marathon and all its week-long events, no task is too big or too small in helping us achieve our goals.  The intern will be provided the opportunity to learn planning and execution fundamentals while developing core skills for organizational communication and business operations.

Intern Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

  • Assist in script writing for weekly and marquee races
  • Process invoices and reconcile budgets to reflect actual spend at events
  • Liaise with vendors to obtain quotes or update plans as needed
  • Assist in developing production schedules for marquee events
  • Complete various administrative tasks in support of the team

Internship Schedule

Interns are expected to work 25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, in a hybrid work setting. This role will also have weekend work (Saturdays or Sundays) to support NYRR events. Dates will be determined at the start of the internship and availability will be taken into account.

Internship Requirements:

  • Sophomore or junior in college, working towards a degree in Sports and Event Management, Sports Marketing, Communication, Business Administration, Marketing, or other related fields
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
  • The ability to be on your feet, outside in the elements for the duration of event shifts
