Finance Technology Intern
Finance Technology, as part of the Office of Finance & Treasury, provides technology support and leadership to all Finance & Treasury technology needs. Our team:
- Delivers business analysis and project management leadership to plan and execute systems implementations in support of Finance & Treasury’s strategic priorities.
- Develops and maintains reporting and analytics capabilities to enable the delivery of financial data in a consumable manner to facilitate business decisions.
- Maintains and supports our financial systems with a focus on customer service and operational efficiencies.
- Establishes and implements security controls to reduce risk across our financial systems.
- Supports the desktop, computing and application needs of Finance & Treasury by promoting a secure, stable, and efficient information technology environment.
The Finance Technology office is seeking a qualified summer intern candidate with high professional and ethical standards who will provide support to a variety of Finance Technology services at the University.
Position Description:
Under the guidance of the Finance Technology staff, the intern will be exposed to a variety of systems and activities across several different technical disciplines.
Primary responsibilities will include the opportunity to:
Business Intelligence Reporting (BI)
- Identify and document financial BI reporting and analytics requirements in tools such as IBM Cognos Analytics and Tableau.
- Develop test plans and test scripts for BI reports.
- Participate in system testing & report assessment.
- Create queries as needed alongside a Finance Technology team member.
System and Business Analysis
- Identify and document process improvement opportunities across various business areas, including PeopleSoft Financials, Sponsored Research Accounting, etc.
- Develop test plans and test scripts.
- Participate in system testing.
- Explore design and development of low code solutions using tools such as RPA.
- Create queries in various applications as needed alongside a Finance Technology team member.
Security and Compliance
- Learn the principles of financial systems security design/setup.
- Address & evaluate system security issues and questions.
- Participate in the execution of University’s PCI compliance program.
Qualifications:
Required
- Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, or information sciences
- Excellent computing skills with a thorough working knowledge of Excel
- Experience with SQL a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with analyzing complex data interrelationships.
- Effective time management.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and seek advice and guidance when necessary.
- Ability to work with others toward a shared goal.
Preferred
- Previously demonstrated interest in technology via projects in school.
Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to provide references and a transcript for review. The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.
