Junior Specialist/Research Technician

The Smith Lab at UCSF is seeking a highly motivated research technician to contribute to collaborative and clinically relevant projects focused the treatment of human leukemia.  Start date is flexible. Ideal start date is Summer 2025. 

 

The Smith Lab is focused on the study of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), treatment resistance and the development of novel therapeutics in treatment-refractory human leukemia.  We utilize genomic, biochemical, and unbiased in vitro screening techniques in a “bedside to bench and back” approach to study cancer drug resistance. Model systems include cell line, induced pluripotent stem cells and primary AML patient samples from patients treated on standard and investigational therapies. 

 

The position will consist of sharing responsibility for laboratory maintenance tasks including ordering, maintaining of lab equipment and protocols, maintenance of laboratory supplies, reagents and support of other laboratory personnel.  Technical scientific duties may include maintenance of cell lines, processing of human blood and bone marrow samples, antibody staining/FACS analysis, RT-PCR, quantitative PCR, sequencing (including novel single cell sequencing techniques), site-directed mutagenesis, DNA, RNA, and protein electrophoresis, Western blotting, plasmid preparation, transfection and retroviral infection of cell lines, cellular proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, and other duties as assigned. Position would be ideal for a candidate with plans to attend graduate or medical school in the future. 


Required Qualifications: BA/BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability; computer proficiency with MS Word, Excel; excellent attitude and work ethic, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Prior laboratory experience with the techniques listed above. Experience with mouse work welcomed.
