Official Residence Supervisor
Summary of Duties:
The Official Residence Supervisor reports to the office of Canada’s Ambassador to the United States and manages the operations of Canada’s Official Residence (OR) in Washington D.C., including overseeing and coordinating: (1) hospitality functions held in the OR; (2) meal preparation and service for events; (3) daily housekeeping and deep cleaning, building and equipment maintenance and landscaping; inventory/supply management of food, alcohol, supplies and equipment; and other associated duties as determined by the Ambassador’s office. The incumbent contributes to financial forecasting and expenditure reconciliation of operational costs associated with the residence and hospitality events. Responsibilities include the supervision of OR staff and contract personnel.
Area of Selection:
This selection process is open to all applicants legally residing in the Washington D.C. area at the time of employment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (General Educational Development test)
Language:
- Intermediate level proficiency in English (written and oral)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of hospitality industry experience at the supervisory level within the last 5 years, such as working for a hotel, restaurant, foreign mission or international organization.
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Education in hospitality management and/or tourism
- Significant experience supervising employees (or large teams of employees) in the hospitality industry for 5 or more years
- Experience working in a diplomatic mission, non-governmental or international organization, and knowledge of its protocols
- Experience in coordinating projects with external providers
- Ability to communicate in French (reading, writing, understanding)
- Ability to communicate in Spanish (reading, writing, understanding)
Operational Requirements:
- Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
- Ability to work occasional overtime, as required (including weekends/evenings).
- Work can involve standing and sitting at a desk with frequent requirement to walk in the residence to oversee the work of contractors, welcome guests, check access points.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
