Camp Director
Overview: The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our residential camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff, and fostering a positive, engaging, and educational environment. This role requires a strong background in child care, staff management, and program development, with a focus on ensuring that students’ individual needs and goals are met throughout the summer. Duties include the following:
Child Care and Management
- Ensure the general safety of the students and residential staff.
- Direct the placement of students in the dorm.
- Ensure that all students maintain good personal hygiene.
- Develop, in conjunction with the faculty, students’ individual goals, and monitor the implementation of any specific programs.
- Provide Residential Supervisors and Residential Instructors with continuous consultation regarding daily child management strategies.
- Provide crisis management and general supervision of any resulting behavioral programs.
- Coordinate communication with parents.
- Monitor the maintenance of Dorm Books.
- Monitor student travel arrangements.
- Monitor that the health procedures defined by the nurse are implemented.
- Ensure that the dining room is properly supervised during meal times.
Personnel
- Participate in the process of hiring all Residential Instructors and Residential Supervisor.
- Provide new trainees with an orientation to the procedures and operating philosophy of Oakland School.
- Provide employees with feedback and evaluation of their performance, including goal setting and defining areas that need development.
- Provide staff with training and development experiences and consultation designed to increase their skills.
- Conduct daily meetings with staff to:
- Review recreation and sports activity planning
- Monitor problem solving
- Provide consultation and motivation
- Review health problems
- Review disciplinary matters
Administration and Facilities
- Review and submit maintenance requests.
- Manage Recreation budget and order supplies.
- Monitor dormitory housekeeping and grounds upkeep.
- Continually review the recreational, sports, and child care programs to improve them and prevent problems.
- Oversee fire drills.
- Coordinate community interaction.
Communication
- Meet with the Head of School daily.
- Attend Program meetings (as available) with the Head of School and other Administrators weekly.
- Run RI meetings daily.
- Keep in contact with parents/ guardians on a regular basis through e-mails and telephone calls.
