Laboratory Technician
The Upstate Freshwater Institute (UFI) is a not-for-profit research corporation dedicated to the improvement of water quality and advancement of freshwater research in NY. UFI has conducted interdisciplinary research on over 100 New York waterbodies since 1981. UFI maintains an accredited laboratory (National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program) that analyzes thousands of samples from over 200 lakes each year. UFI is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Technician to work in their water quality laboratory.
Qualifications
Applicants must have or are working towards a degree in chemistry or other physical science field. Ideal candidates will be:
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Ability to thrive while multi-tasking
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong communication skills
Student with a working knowledge of laboratory practices and an interest in freshwater ecosystems, limnology, and water chemistry are encouraged to apply!

Roles and Responsibilities
Laboratory technicians are responsible for conducting laboratory water quality analysis. They will also maintain laboratory equipment and records/documents, performing basic laboratory duties, and assist in sample receiving and processing.
Commitment and Schedule Expectations
This position starts in April and ends in October. From April-May it will be part-time and increase to full-time starting in June. Hours are typically during UFI's working hours, 9 AM - 5 PM.
