Safety Engineer Intern

General Description

 Hubbard Construction is seeking a motivated Safety Intern to join our established safety team. The intern will gain hands on experience and learn about the implementation and oversight of our Project Safety Program under the guidance of experienced safety professionals. This internship opportunity is ideal for individuals pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the implementation and oversight of the Project Safety Program.
  • Support the development of site safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in training sessions, including New Hires Safety Training (NEST) and safety meetings.
  • Conduct site safety inspections and audits alongside safety professionals.
  • Help document identified hazards, safety goals, and expectations.
  • Aid in monitoring project compliance with safety requirements.
  • Understand and assist with regulatory record-keeping requirements and safety administrative procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety Director or lead safety professionals.

Qualifications Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Safety Management, or a related equivalent.
  • Strong interest in construction safety and a desire to learn about safety practices within the industry.
  • Basic knowledge of heavy highway and bridge construction processes is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer database functions.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members at various levels.
  • A valid driver’s license is required; satisfactory driving record preferred.

Physical Demands

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Safety Engineer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.

 Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Safety Manager encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites), must be able to work in both settings.
