2025 MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

ABOUT BARNESVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY:

The Barnesville EDA has a broad-based approach to economic development. Activities in our busy office include a focus on business attraction, retention and expansion. We market available commercial buildings and commercial property and identify businesses which we need in our community. We are very actively involved in housing development and strive to build relationships with real estate agents in the Fargo-Moorhead area, as well as reach out to existing residents to 

capture in word and video their positive experiences living in Barnesville. Marketing is an 

important part of our EDA office. We work closely with area media outlets, providing press releases on a variety of topics on a regular basis. We have a concentrated focus on expanding the City’s website and enhancing our visibility through the use of social media. 

SOME KEY INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Creating engaging social media content, including photography and video work.
• Designing graphics using Canva.
• Interviewing and storytelling to highlight the people and places of Barnesville.
• Engaging with the public to promote our work during summer festivals and other events.
• Assisting in the branding of external communications.

SUPERVISOR

Karen K Lauer, EDFP is the Executive Director of the Barnesville Economic Development 

Authority, a position she has held since 1993.

INTERNSHIP PERIOD

The internship is scheduled to begin when the student has finished their classes in May and will continue through the middle of August, or approximately 12 weeks.  EDA office hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday, through Friday.

COMPENSATION

This position pays $15 per hour and is 32 to 40 hours per week.

Barnesville, Minnesota is a vibrant community of 2,786 people located 23 miles east of 

Fargo-Moorhead on Interstate 94. Barnesville has an active business community and has seen strong residential growth in recent years.  This is a great opportunity to look about the many varied aspects of community and economic development.
