The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for Legal Support Manager. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies in the Sheriff’s Office and Office of the District Attorney; however, this eligible list may also be used for future vacancies in other County departments.

Legal Support Managers plan, organize, and direct through subordinate supervisors the legal clerical activities and daily operations involved in the preparation, processing, maintenance, and distribution of legal documents, records and correspondence; and to perform related work as required.

Sheriff’s Office: 

The Sheriff’s Office Legal Support Manager will oversee four Civil Office locations and lead a team of Legal Support Supervisors and Legal Support Assistants, providing critical administrative support to Court Services deputies. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, organizing, and directing legal clerical activities
  • Ensuring the validity and legality of all incoming processes
  • Enforcing civil judgments and specific court orders as required by law
  • Managing activities such as evictions, restraining orders, garnishments, property levies, and seizing personal property

Hiring Timelines and Dates

  • Job Offer and Background Process begins after interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Education and/or Experience  

  1. Four (4) years of progressively responsible legal clerical experience, including one (1) year of experience as a Legal Support Supervisor II, Confidential Legal Secretary, Confidential Paralegal, or Confidential Senior Paralegal with the County of San Diego; OR,
  2. Four (4) years of legal clerical or secretarial experience equivalent to a Legal Support Supervisor II in an outside agency or organization performing a variety of increasingly responsible and complex legal clerical work. Experience must have included second-line supervision of subordinate legal clerical staff assigning, monitoring and evaluating work. OR
  3. An associate's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal or Administration of Justice, or a closely related field AND two (2) years of experience as a Legal Support Supervisor II within the County of San Diego or equivalent job classification with an outside agency or organization performing a variety of increasingly responsible and complex legal clerical work. Experience must have included second-line supervision of subordinate legal clerical staff assigning, monitoring and evaluating work.

Evaluation 

Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation contained on their employment and supplemental applications. Condition of Employment
