Volunteer Coordinator

General Job Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the other members of the Community Outreach department and Donate Life DC, Maryland, and Virginia to maintain the Donor Registry and provide education and awareness of the need for organ, eye, and tissue donors locally and nationally. The Volunteer Coordinator will focus on the continuous assessment of Infinite Legacy volunteer requirements, active recruitment, and retention of volunteers to support on-going community initiatives.

Position may require travel to Infinite Legacy regional offices.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in education, communications, marketing, public health, or related field; or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
  2. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Volunteer Coordinator, or experience coordinating grass roots educational programs for non-profit organizations.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Must possess excellent organizational, writing, presentation and leadership skills and the ability to work with community leaders and a diverse group of volunteers.
  • Ability to travel within the Washington DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas and throughout the state of Maryland.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings if necessary.
  • Passion for working with vulnerable populations and the community.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers.
  • Ability to manage and motivate large groups of people.
  • Experience working in a community-based setting with students, donor families, transplant recipients and other partners.
  • Ability to work effectively both with and without supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong story development & storytelling skills.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle for travel expectations within the community.
  • Understands and maintains confidentiality and all regulations regarding HIPAA.
  • Exhibits professionalism, a friendly demeanor, and is a positive representative of infinite Legacy over the phone and in persons.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the on-going assessment and revision of Infinite Legacy volunteer programs, including events, policies and procedures, handbooks, volunteer materials including any revisions to the volunteer online database management system, strategic plans, and long-term program goals.
  2. Oversees and coordinates Infinite Legacy volunteer programs, designed to increase public awareness and commitment to organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
  3. Works collaboratively to develop and implement a well-defined recruitment, orientation, supervision, retention, termination, and training program to Infinite Legacy volunteers targeted to various volunteer types (donor families, recipients, wait list, hospital staff, etc.).
  4. Identifies volunteer leaders to oversee statewide donation ambassador training. Provides ongoing leadership and management training and tools to assist volunteer leaders.
  5. Works with the Public Relations and Media Coordinator to seek opportunities to raise community awareness of Team Maryland through community events and media opportunities.
  6. Supports program staff and department heads in identifying and scheduling volunteers and volunteer requirements to assist with special events and programs.
  7. Develops and prepares educational materials for volunteer training and volunteer management database system.
  8. Facilitates meetings with community groups to discuss possible activities and sponsoring for Infinite Legacy.
  9. Makes public appearances to inform, educate and orient the community as to Infinite Legacy programs and services and to present volunteer opportunities. Represents Infinite Legacy at community speaking programs when necessary.
  10. Works in close collaboration with other members of the Community Outreach department and provides other administrative support as needed.
  11. All other duties assigned.
