Legal Assistant
Burke Burns & Pinelli, Ltd. (the “Firm”) is a well-established small law firm handling both transactional and litigation matters. The Firm is seeking an experienced full-time Legal Assistant in its Chicago office.
The candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to several attorneys. The candidate must be reliable, organized, have a strong work ethic, pay close attention to detail, and be efficient in working on a variety of matters.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of practical experience assisting attorneys in their day-to-day activities in a small/medium sized law firm.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and provide administrative support to assigned attorneys.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with electronic filing/serving of pleadings/documents at all levels of the Illinois state and federal court system.
- Excellent document creation and editing skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, DocuSign and Adobe.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage calendars for assigned attorneys.
- Manage organization and retention of all legal documentation and correspondence.
- Process the opening and closing of files for all client matters.
- Perform various data entry functions and report generation from internal billing system.
- Prepare and update an internal Docket System for all litigation matters tracking all court/due dates.
- Handle various forms of document management and production.
- Implement and improve upon administrative processes for more efficient workflow.
- Provide status updates on tasks performed to legal team.
- Organize and maintain client documentation in physical and electronic format.
- Provide administrative support and setup for videoconference meetings or hearings.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Must be highly proficient with Microsoft OfficeSuite programs, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel along with DocuSign and Adobe.
- Must be able to type >50 wpm with >90%accuracy.
- Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills(written and verbal)
- Must be comfortable working independently yet be a team player.
- Attention to detail and proofreading skills required.
- Experience with Odyssey, PACER, CM/ECF, and the procedures for Collar County governmental offices (clerk, clerk of the court and recorder’s offices).
