Communications Intern

The Town of Mint Hill seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communication efforts.  This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications while working in local government.  The Communications Intern will work independently and, in a team, to fulfill initiatives related to programming.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in Public Relations, Communications and/or Marketing
  • Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.
  • Working toward a college degree in a field related to Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations
  • Previous experience in marketing and communications a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, good time management, creative with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase engagement and followers
  • Develop an overall brand messaging strategy
  • Create content for social media platforms, including graphics, videos, and written content
  • Review Town’s communications material and website and check the content for grammatical and stylistic errors
  • Draft communication materials including press releases and social media content
  • Edit and update content on Town’s website and social media accounts to ensure brand is maintained
  • Design event graphics and other marketing materials
  • Update social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling, and reporting Facebook updates
    • Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns
  • Create online advertisements as needed
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications

Start Date: May 2025 

Hours:  8-10 per week

Compensation: TBD
