Systems and Data Intern (Grants Management Team)

The Foundation seeks a Systems and Data Intern for our Grants Management Team.
Position Summary:
The Foundation is seeking a Systems and Data Intern to work with the Grants Management Team during a 10-week summer intensive program. The Grants Management Team is responsible for managing the Foundation’s grantmaking process. This is an in-person internship in our New York City offices. The Systems and Data Intern will support a range of projects throughout their time at the Foundation and will gain exposure to a wide spectrum of grantmaking data and grantmaking processes.
Position Description:
Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Data Analysis: Collect, clean, and analyze datasets related to Mellon funding
- Visualization Creation: Design and develop interactive and static visualizations to communicate insights effectively
- Reports Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to build and maintain reports for monitoring process performance and outcomes
- Storytelling: Translate data findings into compelling narratives to support grantmaking, strategy development, and learning
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including program, researchers, and communications staff, to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of data processes and reporting methodologies
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or have recently completed, within the past year, a degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel and SQL.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
- Strong communication skills with an ability to explain complex data findings to non-technical audience
- Commitment to the Foundation’s mission and high level of professionalism

Mellon is committed to providing compensation that is competitive and equitable within the philanthropic sector. The estimated salary range for this role is $27.00 - $30.00 per hour. The amount of pay offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to qualifications, unique skills, credentials, or experience that is expected to impact the candidate’s contribution to the role. We will also consider market data as well as the Foundation’s internal pay equity framework.
