Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota is hiring an Actuarial Intern in Eagan, MN for Summer 2025. Our program runs approximately 40 hours per week, June through mid-August. In this role you will apply knowledge of mathematics, probability and statistics in the area of commercial health insurance.  You will gather and analyze a wide variety of data, prepare and present results, and gain exposure to Commercial health insurance products. We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Actuarial Intern to support our commercial actuarial team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in actuarial science, working on real-world projects that impact our business and clients. 

 

This role is based in Eagan, MN and requires 4 days a week on site.  

 

Day in the Life: 

Assist in the development and maintenance of actuarial models. 

Analyze data and trends to support pricing, reserving, and risk management activities. 

Collaborate with team members to prepare reports and presentations. 

Present and communicate results to leadership and key stakeholders. 

Participate in special projects and research initiatives. 

Data retrieval, summarization, and analysis. 

Documentation creation. 

Mathematical model development. 

Financial impact assessment of revenue, claims, and membership. 

Collaboration with Finance, Underwriting, Network and Sales areas. 

Support the actuarial team in day-to-day tasks and long-term projects.

Required Skills and Experiences: 

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:  

We require interns to be enrolled in an educational program during the duration of the internship program.  

Completed a minimum of sophomore year (4 semesters) by the start of the internship  

Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.     

Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and a customer service orientation  

Willingness to take initiative and learn new concepts and technical skills  

Capability to work in a hybrid environment, both at home and onsite at least 4 days per week. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Successfully completed at least one actuarial exam (e.g., Exam P, FM, FAM, SRM, PA, ATPA, ASTAM, ALTAM). 

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools. 

Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Experience with actuarial software (e.g., SAS, R, Python). 

Prior internship or work experience in an actuarial role.
