Job Purpose

The Assistant Director of Student Philanthropy & Young Alumni develops and manages communications and programs to engage students and young alumni in philanthropic support of the College. This is a key part of an institution-wide program to establish a culture of philanthropy at the College to increase alumni donor participation. This position will also help to create and grow a peer-to-peer fundraising program. The position will report to the Senior Director, Annual Giving, and will collaborate with IA colleagues, as well as other institutional partners to plan and execute effective student and young alumni engagement philanthropic opportunities, and peer-to-peer fundraisers.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience working in fundraising, donor relations, marketing, volunteer management, and/or student management/advising. Professional experience working in higher education is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong administrative and project management experience with a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and track projects through completion. Proficiency with software applications, including MS Office (particularly Word and Excel), a relational database or CRM (i.e., Raiser’s Edge), peer-to-peer fundraising software and mass mail- and email-merge programs. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. The ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituencies, while exercising tact and diplomacy in all interactions.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends. Some travel is required.

Increase young alumni involvement in their regional CofC Day and other Club events. Leverage Alumni Affinity Groups to increase young alumni engagement. In coordination with the Senior Director, assist with the development of giving goals and reporting for young alumni.

Provide stewardship to undergraduate student and young alumni donors. Identify and deliver meaningful benefits for those who give, leveraging the popularity of A Charleston Affair and Commencement with these audiences. As well as planning and executing donor events for students and young alumni.

Activity

Organizes multiple fundraisers using peer-to-peer campaign software, including Class Gift, Share Your Chair, and annual students-helping-students fundraiser. Will be responsible for helping to create and grow other peer-to-peer fundraisers throughout the year for IA and for Schools and Units across campus.

Activity

Plans and executes an effective annual program to engage students and young alumni in philanthropic support for the College. Staff advisor for Committed to Charleston (C2C) a student-run philanthropy group and oversees regular meetings with the group. Coordinates student participation in CofC Day and other Institutional Advancement annual events. Coordinates with Senior Director and IA Communications on strategies to communicate more effectively with students and young alumni. In coordination with the Senior Director, assist with the development of giving goals and reporting for student philanthropy.
